Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
GlobeHunt ("we", "us") is a daily geography guessing game. This policy explains what happens to your information when you play. We keep it short because we collect very little.
The short version: there are no accounts. Your games, stats and streaks are saved on the device you play on, and your device gets a random player ID, like GC-7K2M-9QXA. When you finish the daily game, we receive a short record of it with that ID, so we can see how many people play, how hard each level is, and help you if you contact us. We never ask for your name, email or payment details, we don't show ads, and we don't sell anything about you.
Your games and stats stay on your device
Your guesses, today's game, your stats and your streaks are saved in your browser's local storage on the device you play on, so the game remembers them next time. Apart from the play record described below, they aren't sent to us.
Because of that:
- each device and browser keeps its own stats, and they don't move between devices;
- clearing your browser data, using a private or incognito window, or uninstalling the browser erases them, and we can't restore them; and
- some browsers delete saved website data from sites you haven't visited for a while.
Your player ID
The first time you open GlobeHunt, your browser makes up a random player ID, like GC-7K2M-9QXA, and saves it in local storage on your device. It's made of random letters and numbers and isn't based on your name, email, device or location. You can see it under your stats and on the rules screen.
Each device and browser has its own ID. Clearing your browser data deletes it, and you'll get a new one next time you play.
Play records
When you finish the daily puzzle, your browser sends us one short record:
- your player ID;
- the puzzle's date and the level you played;
- whether you solved it, and how many clues you used;
- your current streak on that level; and
- how many of the last 7 days you've played.
The record doesn't include your name or email address. Because it includes your player ID, your games can be linked to each other. We use these records only to:
- count how many people play;
- see whether levels are too easy or too hard, so we can improve the game; and
- help you if you contact us and give us your player ID.
Only the person who runs GlobeHunt can see them. Practice rounds aren't recorded.
Services we rely on
- Netlify hosts the website. Like any web host, it may keep standard server logs, such as your IP address and browser type.
- Supabase stores the play records. When your browser sends one, Supabase may keep standard server logs, such as your IP address. We don't store your IP address with the play record.
The game's font, maps and code are all hosted with the game itself, so no other company is involved.
What we don't do
- We don't have accounts, and we don't ask for your name, email address or payment details.
- We don't sell or rent your information, or share it for advertising.
- We don't show ads or use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't track you across other websites.
- We don't use your player ID to find out who you are, to build an advertising profile, or to contact you.
How long we keep it
- Your stats, streaks and player ID: on your device until you or your browser clear them.
- Play records: about 2 years, then deleted automatically. We'll delete yours sooner if you ask.
- Server logs: for the periods Netlify and Supabase set.
Your choices and rights
To see or delete the play records for your device, email us your player ID. We'll send you what we have or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, such as the right to object to how we use your information or to complain to a data protection authority, and we'll honor them. If you're in California, we don't sell or share personal information as defined by California law.
If you email us
If you email us, we'll use your email address and message only to reply to you, and we'll delete them when they're no longer needed.
Children
Anyone can play GlobeHunt. We never ask anyone, including children under 13, for a name, email address or other contact details. For every player, the only information sent to us is the play record described above, with its random player ID. We use it only to run the game, count players and give support, never for advertising or to contact anyone. A parent can email us their child's player ID, and we'll delete those records.
Security
The game is served over an encrypted connection. Your stats are only as safe as the device they're saved on, so anyone who uses your browser can see them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If we ever start collecting new information, we'll update this page before we do.
